The Recycling Program at Cupertino High School is run by Mr. Jason Heskett during his career education class.  The students are assigned to campus projects that promote humanitarian and environmental concerns.  The responsibilities of the students is to successfully start and maintain these projects thoughout the year. 

The Recycling of bottles and cans is in its third year and we have successfully raised over 2,000 dollars that is used for buying more recycling supplies and promoting other programs.  The group is currently promoting a program that allows campus clubs and teams to sign up for a week to promote recycling on campus, and the students collect and sort the recycle, then 50% of the proceeds go towards the sponsoring club of team.  The other 50% is used to help maintain and buy more equipment for the program.

Soles4Souls is was started this year by two of the students in the class as thier project.  They have collected over 200 pairs of shoes for the non-profit organization Soles4Souls.  They are currently attempting to raise money for the shipping of additional shoes by recycling old cell phone and printer cartridges.

Wermz is a food scrap waste program for our school site, that collects food scraps from the culinary arts program, the cafeteria, and a number of teachers currently.  It is in its beginning stages and will eventually collect food from local businesses and the student community.  The product of the worms eating the food scraps is a rich worm casting fertilizer.  The fertilizer will eventually be sold locally as a fundraiser for the program and/or donated to local non-profit gardens and farms.
