AVID Information

WHAT IS AVID?

AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is an internationally recognized program designed to prepare high school students for success in four-year universities.  AVID students enroll in rigorous college-preparatory courses and in an AVID class.

The CHS AVID curriculum focuses on developing study skills, academic skills, and organizational skills necessary for success in high school and college. The CHS AVID program offers in-class college and career counseling, personal mentoring, tutoring, and opportunities for service learning, cultural awareness, and leadership development.

At Cupertino High School, AVID students form a community of support based on mutual respect. Older AVID students serve as role models and mentors to younger students. AVID is for students who are serious about succeeding in high school. Success depends on individual determination and personal responsibility.

WHAT CREDIT WILL I RECEIVE?

As an AVID student, you will receive ten units of elective credit each year.

Interested in Being an AVID Student?

The AVID program recruits students in the spring for the next year's class. Along with visiting and interviewing the 8th graders at the feeder middle schools, we also often have spots open in our current AVID 10, 11, and 12 classes. Please contact the AVID Coordinator, Lisa Hart, at lisa_hart@fuhsd.org for more information. Thank you!
