If you are NOT returning to FUHSD next year, your FUHSD Google accounts will be deactivated on June 1st.

(if you will be back next year, i.e. you are a 9-11th grader who will still be attending an FUHSD school next year, your account WILL NOT be deactivated)

If you would like to keep any work or content from your account, you must transfer or archive it.

The easiest way to keep your info from your FUHSD account after you leave is to use "Google Transfer".

See Ms. McLeod in the library BEFORE May 30th if you have any questions or problems.

PUSH YOUR SHELF!

a joyful summer reading program for every Pioneer

ABOUT

The PUSH YOUR SHELF reading program is a social, communal reading project centered around the idea of one book, one campus.  The goal is to encourage everyone in our Pioneer community--students of every grade level, teachers of every subject, staff members, administrators, parents, neighbors alike--to engage in the joy of reading each summer and share their reading experience via social media, both as a form of accountability and a form of encouragement within our community.  Whether we read alone or read together, we know that communal commitment to reading always reminds us of the power of stories to bring communities closer.  Join our reading community and PUSH YOUR SHELF this summer!

With these goals in mind, we invite you to join us in reading the 2018 book selection!

7.30-8.30pm – “All Grown Up: What Worked, What Didn't.”

A Panel discussion for parents and students tackling the question of what to do after high school, as they rapidly speed towards expensive decisions, often with little real knowledge of what is expected of young adults entering the job market. There are many misconceptions today on what you need for success. One way to explore this important question is to ask: How are others who went to high schools in Cupertino finding success after college?  What worked and what didn’t? The student panelists will share their education, job history and their success in today’s job market. Dear Parents,

In connection with our ongoing support of student mental wellness and pursuant to Education Code 215, as added by Assembly Bill 2246, the District is adding supports to our practice addressing student suicide prevention and intervention. We are also continuing the third year of our partnership with El Camino Hospital in connection with this effort.

For students, Dr. Glenn Teeter, who directs the Intensive Outpatient Program ASPIRE, has developed a presentation that will be delivered in an assembly across a 7-period day. This will occur at Cupertino High School on Thursday, March 8. The content of the presentation will include a strong message that suicide is preventable, information about the risk factors and warning signs, and a model for helping. The presentation will conclude by providing resources on how to get help for oneself or others. Given the sensitive nature of the topic, mental health professionals will be on campus to provide support. A copy of the presentation and community resources will be sent to all parents following the assembly day.

On Monday, March 5, in connection with the student assemblies on March 8, Dr. Teeter along with Dr. Kelly Troiano will present an evening for parents designed to continue to bring awareness and education to the community on teen mental wellness. Topics that will be explored are the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions, suicide prevention education, opportunities to communicate in a healthy way with our teens, insights on how your primary care doctor can support your family, and most importantly, knowing when and how to reach out for help. There will be an opportunity for Q&A.

Registration required. Seating is limited. Call 800-216-5556 or visit www.elcaminohospital.org/healthymindteens

Join us on Monday, March 5 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at CHS in the Library as we continue the conversation on teen mental health. If you have any questions about the student assembly and/or parent event, please contact Assistant Superintendent Trudy Gross at 408-522-2203 OR trudy_gross@fuhsd.org

Dear Parents,

Thank you for attending the parent information meeting on December 12.  We are sorry that some of our parents were unable to attend due to the event being sold out.  Once we maxed out the on the location capacity, regretfully, we could not open more spots.

As promised the link to the entire presentation is posted below. The presentation provides information on how the program works for students, application process, host requirements, timeline and the support required from parents.

The purpose of the Job Shadow Day program:

  • To expose students to careers to help them gain an insight into the academic, technical, and personal skills required for jobs and give them an opportunity to make connections.

How the program works:

  • Parents/Community members host our students at their work place/business for a day
  • Students are placed in actual workplace settings and shadow their hosts for the day. This year the job shadow day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, 2018
  • Students observe the hosts in their work environment
  • Hosts share insights into their jobs with the students shadowing them – skills, job profile, facility tour where feasible.

How you can help:

  • Sign up to host students (groups of 2-5 students. Minimum two….no maximum limit)
  • Sign up to recruit hosts from community, net work of friends and co-workers.
  • We require a minimum of 50 hosts to start and to enable us to offer sufficient job shadow slots for students.
  • More Hosts = More slots for students
  • Students of Parent Hosts and Recruiters get priority when job sign ups begin.

Links to parent presentation, signup forms for Hosts, Recruiters, letters to prospective hosts below(also included in the slides):

  • Job Shadow parent presentation here
  • Host signup form here
  • Recruiter (parent volunteer recruiting hosts) signup form here

To protect our student athletes and coaches from the health hazards associated with the poor air quality caused by the Napa/Sonoma fires, we are cancelling all sporting events and practices for the weekend of October 13-15.  Coaches will be looking to reschedule games as possible.  We will play our football game against Santa Clara in the week after the season would have ended.

While we are deeply disappointed to have to cancel games, we are grateful to be dealing with disappointment rather than devastation.

Rest up!  We'll keep everyone up-to-date on further developments and send positive thoughts to our friends in the North Bay.

I regret to inform you that the Tournament of Bands, scheduled for this Saturday, October 13th, is cancelled.  The district made the decision to protect the health of our students, guests, and community in the face of increasingly unhealthy air quality caused by the Napa and Sonoma fires.   This event will not be rescheduled this year as all the subsequent weekends in the competitive band season are already booked.

While it is deeply disappointing not to be able to host our guest bands and showcase our school community, we are grateful to be dealing with disappointment rather than devastation.

We look forward to seeing everyone next fall!

The committee is a group of individuals who get selected to be a part of a special Tino UNICEF leadership team, working to promote the mission of UNICEF through the planning and execution of outreach events as well as organizing all our major fundraisers. This year, we're taking things to a new level by extending our target audience to the city of Cupertino. This means that we will be working with local schools to reach out to our community with fundraisers and outreach events. It's a great opportunity to gain some leadership experience and receive the ability to make a positive impact in the lives of many children across the world. Keep in mind, ALL MEMBERS are welcome to participate in all of our events this year, so do not feel discouraged if you are unable to be a part of the committee.

Remember, we want passionate individuals who seek the position solely out of the motivation to help Tino UNICEF spread its mission to our community, and not those who simply want a leadership position. Be as honest as you can in the application, and put forth your best qualities! If you have any ideas for fundraisers or outreach events this year, please briefly mention them in the online application and be prepared to present them in greater detail at your interview. Sign up forms for the interview slots will be sent out immediately after the due date for applications. REMEMBER, THE ONLINE APPLICATION IS DUE OCTOBER 20TH AT 10:59PM. Late applications will not be accepted.

Questions? Comments? Concerns?

Please reach out to your committee officers or send an email to tinounicef@gmail.com

Good luck applicants!

Here is the link to the application: https://goo.gl/forms/S99YcaCKjoAwshti2

Sincerely,

Tino UNICEF

Dear CHS parents and families,

As you may know, the 2017 FUHSD College Fair is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21 at Fremont High School. While the District is excited to be able to continue to provide this valuable informational event to our students and parents, we are aware of the challenge that the date poses for some of our families as it falls on Rosh Hashanah. Unfortunately, FUHSD was assigned this date by the consortium of colleges that schedules college fairs throughout the state. The District did immediately request another date, however with hundreds of events being scheduled each year, we were unable to secure an alternative date and time. The only other option available was for a date in November, which would have been far too late to support our families in getting the critical information they need.

Below we have provided information on several local and online college fairs which are open to the general public and which may be of interest to you and your student(s):

Sept. 25, 2017

The Big Virtual College Admissions Fair

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST

To register: https://collegefair.thebigvirtual.com/national-online-college-admissions-fair-high-school-counselor-registration-and-information

Oct. 8, 2017

NACAC Fall 2017 Silicon Valley STEM College and Career Fair

Santa Clara Convention Center

Exhibit Halls C & D

5001 Great America Parkway

Santa Clara, CA 95054

1 to 4 p.m.

To register: https://www.nacacfairs.org/attend/stem-college-and-career-fairs/silicon-valley-stem-college-and-career-fair

For additional information and resources, please contact your school¹s College and Career Advisor.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the conflict of the College Fair and Rosh Hashanah and we will continue to try and minimize scheduling conflicts of this nature in the future.

Your Google Account DOES NOT Graduate With You!

If you are not returning to FUHSD next year, your FUHSD Google accounts will be deactivated on June 30th.

(if you will be back next year, i.e. you are a 9-11th grader who will still be attending an FUHSD school next year, your account WILL NOT be deactivated)

If you would like to keep any work or content from your account, you must transfer or archive it.

  • To archive your fuhsd account and have it stored in a zip folder, use "Google Takeout". Watch this video to see how to use it: https://youtu.be/axOmPboi03U
  • Here are the written instructions with the link to use "Google Takeout":

In addition to archiving you account using "Google Takeout", you can try doing "Google Transfer". When this works, it is the nicest way to get your account migrated over to a personal account. There have been some issues with using it, so if you are worried that it isn't working, use "Google Takeout" too!

Here are the instructions for how to use "Google Transfer":

If you are having problems with "Google Transfer", use "Google TAKEOUT" instead or in addition. This will ensure you get your info one way or another.

See Ms. McLeod in the library BEFORE June 2nd if you have any questions or problems.

Grad Night

Please consider volunteering at Grad Night and being a part of the final send-off for the class of 2017. Please go to Volunteer Sign Up - Grad Night to review all the opportunities.   We need many volunteers to make this a successful event for our students.

Ticket sales and fundraising activities cover many of the expenses of Gad night party, but the success of the event each year is also largely due to the generosity of our community and businesses who donate, prizes, gift cards, food and beverages.  The more donations we can get, the more funds are available for entertainment and the more fun and exciting the event becomes. Parents play an important role in helping out these donations. If you have connections with local businesses which might be willing to contribute items to our grad night, or if you personally own a business and/or would like to contribute any of these items, please let us know by emailing us at chsgrad.prizes@gmail.com

Please do not solicit businesses before checking with us. We do not want to lose their goodwill by having several people approach them for the same cause. List below are just suggestions. We will take anything New that you feel that students would like to WIN at Grad night. We have donation letters with our Tax ID that we can provide to all the business that donate.
