Advanced Placement Exam Information for Students and Parents
September 2025
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year. As you are settling into your classes, we wanted to bring to your attention some important dates related to Advanced Placement (AP) exams. This year, registration for AP exams will be from September 9-September 30. This registration window is mandated by the College Board© for all AP programs, and is not the decision of FUHSD or its schools. AP exams will take place from May 4-15, 2026. College Board is offering most tests digitally or hybrid digital this school year as part of their transition to all digital exams over the course of the next few years.
We realize this registration timeline is very early in the school year, so we encourage students to talk over their exam decisions with their family, teachers, and trusted adults. Students should consider their confidence in the course content, overall workload, post-secondary plans, and other commitments in the Spring when deciding whether or not to take an AP exam. Some colleges and universities require that students taking AP courses take the corresponding exam. The exam fee is $125 for regular format exams and $135 for special format (World Language, Music Theory, Studio Art) exams. There will be no late registration, so students will need to plan carefully. If a student qualifies for financial assistance then the cost for each exam will be $10 for regular format and $15 for special format.
FUHSD administers over 12,000 exams each year while school is in session, which requires significant additional personnel, facilities, and equipment. The biggest expenses for AP exams in FUHSD are the College Board exam fees and personnel to administer the exams. We work hard to run an efficient testing program in order to keep costs down, while maintaining a safe and supportive testing environment for students.
Registration: The Fremont Union High School District offers online registration for all exams through the Infinite Campus Portal. In order to purchase your exam(s) through the portal please follow this help guide.
For students needing to pay in person (check or cash) you should refer to your school site-specific AP testing email that will be forthcoming and will include the in-person purchase process.
AP exam purchases aren’t complete until students have added themselves to the course in MyAP. Course join codes are shared with students in their AP courses and are required as part of the registration process.
Refunds: Full refunds (minus processing fee from IC store) for exams purchased are available until November 3rd without incurring a fee. Between November 4th and March 6th exam refund requests will incur a $45 fee plus the IC store processing fee. There are no refunds for exams after March 7th, 2026.
Important Dates for AP exam purchase:
September 9: FUHSD AP exam registration opens at 8 a.m. through Infinite Campus portal (payment by credit card or e-check) or in person with our CHS ASB School Financial Technician, room 604. For in-person, we need this FORM filled out and check/cash.
September 30: FUHSD AP exam registration closes at 4 p.m. online & and in-person.. No late registration after this date.
For more information about AP exam registration, please refer to your school website in the coming week.
Restricted Purchase Exams: Studio Art is a restricted purchase exam, meaning that the student is required to be enrolled in the course through CHS to be eligible to take the AP exam.
Low Demand Exams: There are some exams that are considered “low demand” exams because we have very few students interested in taking them. If you are interested in one of the “low demand” exams, please read the important information (linked here) prior to filling out the google interest form. Once an exam is confirmed that there is enough interest, then your school site will notify you to register for the exam in IC.
AP Testing Dates are linked here for the May 2026 administration. For all morning exams starting at 8:00 a.m., arrival time is 7:15 a.m. at the testing location. For all afternoon exams that begin at 12:00 p.m., the arrival time at the testing location is 11:30 a.m. For any students taking two exams on the same day, a short break will be provided between exams and students will be able to sit for both exams.
The following student groups are the only students who qualify for AP testing in FUHSD:
- Enrolled FUHSD students
- Home schooled students who reside in FUHSD boundaries (address verification required)
- Students who reside in FUHSD boundaries and are enrolled in the Independent Study program offered through the Santa Clara County Office of Education (address verification required)
Where will each test be located?
Test locations are scheduled once registration is completed. Most of our AP exams will occur at Cupertino High School, however, some students may need to travel to another site within FUHSD. A testing schedule, including location, report time, and testing time will be shared with all registered AP examinees.
How long are AP Exams?
AP Testing dates and times for the May 2026 administration are linked here.
Start Times - For all morning exams starting at 8:00 a.m., arrival time is 7:15 a.m. at the assigned testing location. For all afternoon exams that begin at 12:00 p.m., the arrival time at the testing location is at 11:15am. For students taking two exams on the same day, a short break will be provided between exams, and students are expected to take both exams per College Board.
End Times - All exams require an administration period which can take up to 60 additional minutes to the posted exam times on College Board which do not include their mandated breaks and can impact an exam’s end time. Despite our best efforts to run our exam administrations efficiently and effectively, you can safely assume that if an exam is scheduled for three hours and starts at 8:00 a.m., students taking that exam may not be released until well after 11:45 a.m. The same may be true for afternoon exams scheduled to start at noon, their release time may be well after 3:50 pm.
What happens if I have testing schedule conflicts?
Please contact George Bechara, and Mary Nguyen, immediately, to determine if late testing is an option for you. Late testing is May 18 - May 22, is dependent on College Board approval and may require an additional fee.
Am I signing up for the right AP exam for my class?
A few AP exam subjects are commonly mixed up. Please reference the following information to ensure you purchase the correct exam.
- AP English Language = not offered and is a self-study exam.
- AP English Literature = corresponds to our AP English Lit (12th grade) course offered at CHS
- AP MICROeconomics = corresponds to our AP MICROeconomics course offered at CHS
- We do not offer the AP MACROeconomics course, so that would be a self-study exam.
- There are four different AP exams for physics. Be sure to select the right one(s):
- AP Physics 1 = offered at CHS.
- AP Physics 2 = We do not offer this course, so it would be a self-study exam.
- AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism* = offered at CHS
- AP Physics C: Mechanics* = offered at CHS.
